John Fred Wetzel, 91, died quietly and peacefully on Sat., July 1, 2000 in St. George, UT.
He was born Dec. 7, 1908 in Lockwood, Dade, Missouri to Karl Wetzel and Margar-etha Molle. He married Dorothy Evelyn Glenn on Dec. 24, 1929. Their marri-age was later solem-nized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 12, 1950. She preceded him in death on Nov. 5, 1966. On Jan. 18, 1968 John married Alice Greenwall in the Salt Lake LDS Temple for time.
John became an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, when the missionaries were called to their home and they were baptized on March 21, 1937. He did farming near Robinson, Kansas for many years. In 1951 John moved his family to Utah and worked on Church Welfare farms for 18 years. After retirement he and his wife Alice traveled during the summer in their motor home. They enjoyed this very much. He served as a Stake Missionary and many other positions in the church.
John is survived by his wife: Alice; nine children: Mildred Marie (Keith) Graham; Robert John (Joann) Wetzel; Joyce Ann (Steve) Arvig; Carl (Ilene) Wetzel; Deloris (George) Holgerson; Margaret (Frank) Vega; Ward (Cathy) Greenwall; Joe (Sally) Greenwall and Earl (Lanie) Greenwall; two brothers: Donald (Dorothy) Wetzel and Ralph Wetzel; 26 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Walter and Jewel; and one sister: Anna Gibbons Gerber.
Graveside services will be Thurs., July 6, 2000 at 11 a.m. in the Mountain View Memorial Estates Cemetery, Salt Lake City, UT, under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary
