WIMBLEDON, England — At age 43, that old grass magic was gone, and Martina Navratilova gracefully accepted being less than the best at Wimbledon.

Navratilova and Mariaan de Swardt lost to Venus and Serena Williams 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 in the women's doubles quarterfinals Wednesday. The defeat ended Navratilova's Wimbledon comeback after a four-year absence.

"It was a blast, a total blast," she said. "I enjoyed it more than I thought I would."

Navratilova said she might play again next year, and she hasn't decided about the U.S. Open next month.
