Pam Tillis and Mark Wills will bring a bit of country to the Rocky Mountain Raceways, 6555 W. 2100 South, Magna, on Saturday, July 8, at 7 p.m.

Pamela Yvonne Tillis, daughter of old-school crooner Mel Tills, began her music career as a classical pianist when she was 8. She took on the folk guitar when she was 11 and started forging her style by listening to the Beatles, Janis Joplin, Stevie Wonder and Carole King. By 15, she was hitting the Nashville night-club circuit.

In 1979, Tillis landed her first recording deal, but after 10 years of struggle she found a new label, Arista. Today, Tillis has found a niche for herself, even though she might not be a part of the new country rock that has been overplayed on the airwaves these days.

Still, her most recent album, "Every Time," has caught the ear of true country fans. And last week, the singer officially became part of the Grand Ol' Opry Family.

Wills is one of country's rising stars. His take on the Brian McKnight hit "Back at One" has gained popularity and moved his album "Permanently" up the charts.
