Franklin Whitehouse, Jr., beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on August 8, 2000 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He was born June 17, 1910 in Lincoln, Tooele County, to Franklin Whitehouse, Sr. and Mary Ann Harris. Franklin grad-uated from Tooele High School in 1928 and from Utah State Agricultural College in 1932 with a bachelor's degree in history. A master's degree in Educational Administration, with classwork at Berkeley, U of U, and Oxford, England, later provided him with an excellent background for his life's work as a history teacher and eventually as principal of Tooele Jr. High School. He loved his work as an educator. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Lieutenant aboard the U.S.S. Haskell, in the Pacific Theater. An active member in the L.D.S. Church, he served faithfully in many positions of teaching and leadership. He married Bertha Poppleton Maughan in Wellsville, Utah, May 28, 1943 and was later sealed to her and their five wonderful children June 26, 1967 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Franklin (or "Hank" as he was known by many) was very involved in community affairs, serving on the city council, the county water commission, and on many committees to improve education. An avid horseman, he enjoyed riding in the mountains surrounding Tooele Valley.
Surviving are his wife and children: Paula Ann (Richard Spencer), Salt Lake City, Utah; Roger Frank(Valerie), Sandy, Utah; Susan, American Fork, Utah; Scott Maughan (Margaret), Stansbury Park, Utah; and Russell Maughan (Teresa), West Jordan, Utah; 23 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Also survived by two sisters, Evelyn Martin, Tooele, Utah and Mary Lacey(Joe), Salt Lake City, Utah and one sister-in-law, Nellie Whitehouse, Taylorsville, Utah. Preceded in death by two brothers, Alva and Howard Whitehouse, and one sister, Leona Charles.
Funeral services will be held Sat. August 12 at 11 a.m. at the Tooele 4th Ward Chapel 192 West 2nd South. Friends may call at Tate Mortuary 110 So Main St. on Friday from 6-8pm and one hr prior at the church on Sat. Interment in the Tooele City Cemetery.
