Last October, when Kelly Pearson was 17 and a teen reporter for the Deseret News Pulse page, she wrote an article about a female wrestler at Hunter High. This spring, she submitted a copy of that story when she applied to be a teen reporter for TeenPeople magazine. The New York editors thought her story was "cool," says Devon Powers, News Team coordinator for TeenPeople.

They chose Pearson to be one of their 36 teenage reporters for this year.

Pearson, who was the editor of the Murray High paper and who will attend the University of Minnesota this fall, says she was looking to take the "next step up" as a reporter. After an initial meeting with TeenPeople editors, she'll be submitting story ideas and articles via e-mail, she says.

Meanwhile, other Utah teens who aspire to be journalists, and who are going to be juniors or seniors in high school, are invited to serve on the Deseret News' Pulse team for the upcoming school year. Call 237-2150 for details.
