ST. GEORGE — SkyWest Airlines is building a $17 million hangar expansion at the Salt Lake International Airport. Upon completion, the expansion will add 120,000 square feet to the current 70,000 square feet of space used for airplane maintenance and employee training.
Some 34 new jets are being added to SkyWest's Salt Lake City-based fleet. The expansion adds enough room for six regional jets.
The new building will also increase the capacity of the in-house training facility from 170 to 420 people. With the pending addition of 1,000 new pilots, 500 flight attendants and other support personnel, the new capacity will allow SkyWest to maintain and improve its initial and continuing training programs.
The hangar is expected to be completed by July 2001.
