PROVO — A judge set bail Monday at $250,000 for a Payson man arrested for allegedly soliciting a hit man to kill his ex-wife.

However, he's already serving a jail term for an earlier aggravated assault charge involving his ex-wife.

Utah County sheriff's detectives arrested James Magarrell, 31, Wednesday after police say they videotaped him the day before asking a police informant if he could find someone who would kill his ex-wife for $10,000.

The man is accused of approaching the informant while the two were housed together at the Utah County Jail.

Magarrell has not been charged in the incident. Prosecutors are continuing to review evidence and Magarrell is scheduled to appear in court again next week.

Magarrell is serving a six-month jail term for aggravated assault and burglary for an incident last year in Orem where he broke into his ex-wife's home and allegedly choked her.
