Alpine School District

The Alpine School District department of Special Education is attempting to contact all persons with disabilities between the ages of three and twenty-one in compliance with Federal law which mandates the provision of free educational programs for such persons.

If readers know of any student who might qualify for these services, contact the principal of your school or the special education office of Alpine Schools District, 756-8410 or 756-8461.

American Fork Canyon

The Pleasant Grove Ranger District of the Uinta National Forest is implementing the third summer season of the American Fork Canyon-Alpine Loop Recreation Area fee demonstration project. To encourage visits, District Ranger Robert R.. Easton has announced free entrance days in American Fork Canyon for Aug. 25 and Sept. 25.

Objectives for this project include: maintaining and protecting resources and facilities, increasing safety by providing a uniformed presence, and increasing law enforcement and emergency services.

Mountainlands

The Mountainland Association of Governments and the Regional Planning Department will hold a public hearing from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 21 at the Mountainland offices, 586 E. 800 North.

Residents are invited to comment on the planning process used by the Regional Planning Department, Mountainland Association of Governments and the Metropolitan Planning organization of Utah Valley.

Representatives from the Mountainland planning staff along with representatives from the Federal Transit and Federal Highway administrations will be available to answer questions and take comments.

Provo City

Residents of the Joaquin neighborhood have joined forces with Provo Community Policing and Neighborhood Housing Services of Provo Inc. to paint and clean up a neighborhood residence with a long history of criminal activity.

The clean-up begins Saturday, Aug. 19, 7:30 a.m., at the property located at 606 E. 500 North. This property has been riddled with crime and a has been a constant source of complaints in the neighborhood. Recently, through the many efforts of community policing, the home has been sold and the previous tenants evicted.

As part of the Good Neighbor Program, Provo's Franklin neighborhood and Neighborhood Housing Services of Provo Inc. will be sponsoring a schoolyard beautification event, beginning at 7 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19 at Franklin Elementary School, 350 S. 600 West.

Community volunteers are needed to help weed, plant flowers and spruce up the existing landscape at the school.
