A Scandinavian Centennial Jubilee marking 100 years since the opening of the Scandinavian Mission of the Church drew thousands from throughout the Church to Salt Lake City, the Church News reported on Aug. 16, 1950. The celebration Aug. 11-13 included a sacred pageant at the University of Utah Stadium that attracted nearly 8,000 spectators and an all-day party and outing at Liberty Park. At a Sunday morning meeting in the Salt Lake Tabernacle, President J. Reuben Clark Jr., first counselor in the First Presidency, complimented the Scandinavians "for their great mission, greatly performed by great faith and great works. Elder John A. Widtsoe of the Quorum of the Twelve paid tribute to the nearly 6,000 missionaries who had served in the Scandinavian missions during the past century. Some 56,000 Church members, an average of almost 10 converts per missionary, had come into the Church through their efforts, and nearly 27,000 of them had immigrated to Utah, he said.
