"J.O."

James Owen Smith, age 69, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away August 21, 2000 in Salt Lake City, Utah after a brief illness.

Born December 9, 1930 in Mt. Vernon, Indiana to Harold and Mabel Smith. He married the love of his life, Patricia Hanson on July 23, 1952. J.O. served in the U.S. Navy before he embarked on an illustrious career in law enforcement. J.O. was an Indiana State Trooper before joining the Las Vegas Police Department in 1960. J.O. retired from the department as a lieutenant in 1980. Well respected by his peers, J.O. received many commendations and is still well thought of today. Unable to get police work out of his blood, J.O. worked part-time at the police department for the last several years. Countless people loved and admired him for his quick wit, commitment to his profession and love of his family. His many friends will miss him greatly.

Survived by his loving wife, Pat; daughters; Debbie (Dan) Rosenhan and Donna (Jim) Moore; grandchildren; Bethany (Travis) Powell and Ian and Thomas Moore; sister; Janet Eades, brother; Bill Smith. This world will be a lonelier place without him.

A memorial service for Salt Lake friends and family will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000 at the Glenmoor 4th ward chapel, 9610 So. 4881 West, South Jordan.

The family would like to thank the many people who have been praying and remembering us through this difficult time. Special thanks to the medical staff at LDS hospital for your valiant efforts as well as making his last hours more comfortable. God bless you all.
