Deep-sea fish will be coming to the surface on a new set of five 33-cent stamps issued by the U.S. Postal Service.
The offerings will be released in October, which has been designated National Stamp Collecting Month by the Postal Service.
Featured on the stamps are photos of five creatures found in the deep sea — the fanfin anglership, sea cucumber, fangtooth, amphipod and medusa.
Deep-sea fish live in an environment characterized by darkness, cold and high water pressure. They also can generate light.
All five of the fish depicted on the new stamps were photographed alive while in tanks.
The self-adhesive stamps will be available at your local post office. First-day covers will be made available by the Stamp Fulfillment Services of the Postal Service by calling 800-STAMP-24.
