Lehi

The harvest season is here. And on Oct. 13 and 14, Thanksgiving Point Institute, 2095 N. West Frontage Road, will celebrate with a festival of art, music and food.

Artisans interested in showing and selling their wares at the festival should contact Thanksgiving Point by Friday, Sept. 8. Thirty booths will be set up in and around the Thanksgiving Village.

Orem/Provo

Rep. Chris Cannon, R-Utah, and Democratic challenger Donald Dunn will face off at the Provo-Orem Chamber of Commerce's Friday Forum.

The debate will be at noon on Friday, Sept. 1, at the Provo Marriott. Cost is $15 for chamber members with an RSVP, $18 without.

Cannon won Utah's 3rd Congressional District in 1996.

Previously, Cannon was associate solicitor in the Department of the Interior. He also has worked as a consultant at the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Dunn, a former teacher, worked as one of only two Utahns on staff at the White House during the Clinton administration, where he served as special assistant to the White House political director. Eventually, Dunn was made director of public affairs for the U.S. Trade and Development Agency.

Provo

Emerson-Smith College, located at the historic Franciscan Center 172 N. 500 West, is now accepting registration for its new High School for the Arts program. School opens Sept. 20.

The ESC program is looking for students who are artistic and need a different experience in schooling. Tuition is based on income and work-study. Students will receive instruction in the arts as well as a solid base in academics.

Utah County

The Utah National Parks Council Boy Scouts of America will hold a Silver Beaver Recognition and Awards Evening at 4 p.m. Saturday Sept. 9 in the Brigham Young University Wilkinson Center Ballroom.

Once a year, the Utah National Parks Council is authorized by the National Council to award the Silver Beaver to outstanding men and women with the Council. This year the National Parks Council will present 73 Silver Beaver awards.

UVSC

Auditions for Utah Valley State College's country western dancing team will be Saturday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. in room 112 of the physical education building.

The dance team — called "Fire and Ice" — last year won top honors at a national competition. A new 16-person team is being picked to help defend the title, said Bryan Ackerman, who oversees the team along with his wife, Michelle.
