GREEN BAY, Wis. — Green Bay's first-string defense forced its first two punts of the preseason and Bill Schroeder caught two touchdown passes as the Packers held on to beat the Cleveland Browns 34-33 Saturday night in the NFL's final preseason game.

Backup fullback Matt Snider caught a short pass from Danny Wuerffel and rumbled 66 yards for the go-ahead touchdown with 5:28 left.

The Browns made a late scoring drive on five straight passes from Kevin Thompson to Dennis Northcutt — including a 26-yard TD pass with 50 seconds left — but Thompson's pass to Northcutt on the two-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful.

Packers quarterback Brett Favre rested the tendinitis in his right elbow for the third straight game, but is expected to play next week against the New York Jets, keeping alive his NFL-record streak of 125 consecutive starts.
