Beloved husband and father, Joseph Cooney, 59 passed away August 25, 2000 at home of natural causes.
Born Nov 6, 1940, Brooklyn, NY to Mary Emerling and George Cooney. Married Dolly Evangelista Aug 20, 1966 in Astoria, NY. Joe was CEO and President of First Security Investors Services, and currently serving on MSRB and NASD rule making boards. He served in the US Marine Corp from 1958-1962. Member of St. Thomas More Parish. Joe's hobbies included skiing, hiking, tennis, reading, traveling with his family and patron of Utah Opera. He was an avid Gator and Hokie fan. He was a chocolate connoisseur.
Survived by his wife, Dolly; sons, John, Scott, Ft. Collins, CO; sister, Patricia (Frank) Devaney, Queens, NY; aunts Anna, Helen, FL; loving nieces and nephews.
Joe was an eternal optimist and a source of strength to all who knew him. He was viewed as a guru in the banking industry, highly respected and often quoted.
A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wed. Aug 30, at the St. Thomas More Parish, 3015 E. Creek Road (8150 S.), Sandy. The vigil will be celebrated 6-7:30 p.m. Tues. Aug 29, at the Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. (7600 S), followed by a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Joe's name to the Utah Opera, 50 W. 200 S, Salt Lake City, UT 84101
