A West Valley man has been charged after a Molotov cocktail was thrown against a neighbor's window.

The man, 36, was charged with aggravated arson, a first-degree felony, Tuesday in 3rd District Court. The man remained in the Salt Lake County Jail Wednesday morning on $50,000 bail.

On Aug. 23, a man allegedly pounded on the door and windows of an apartment near 3700 South and 3300 West, demanding money the resident apparently owed him, the charges say. He threatened to "burn the place down" if the money wasn't returned, charges state.

The man then thew a Molotov cocktail against the window of the apartment, charges state. The object fell against the house and started a fire.

If convicted, the man faces up to life in prison and a $10,000 fine.
