Logicenter, based in San Mateo, Calif., has been named as the Internet operations sponsor and supplier for the 2002 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games site, www.saltlake2002.com by the Salt Lake Organizing Committee.
The site for the 2002 Winter Games is forecasted to be the most heavily trafficked event Web site in history with page views projected at more than 1.5 billion and about 20 billion hits (a 23-fold increase over the Nagano Games' 65 million page views), including 1.2 billion page views and about 15 billion hits in February 2002. Overall, the site is projected to attract 30 million unique visitors and conduct more than 250,000 e-commerce transactions.
SLOC said in a press release it is the first organizing committee to fully integrate the Internet into its preparations for the Games. Beginning Oct. 10, fans interested in attending the Games will be able to request tickets, the first time the Internet has been the primary ticket-ordering source. SaltLake2002.com. has also served as the volunteer gateway as SLOC aims to recruit more than 26,000 volunteers. Nearly 98 percent of the volunteer applicants have signed up via the Internet. SaltLake2002.com also features an online store with more than 500 Olympic-related items, employment opportunities, commemorative brick sales and links for arranging Games-time accommodations.
