Grizzlies 6, Buzz 3
FRESNO, Calif. — "Double your pleasure, double your fun" is not only a jingle in a gum commercial, but it was the theme for the Fresno Grizzlies on Thursday night as they knocked off the Salt Lake Buzz 6-3.
The Grizzlies managed nine hits off pitchers Mike Romano (4-3) and Gus Gandarillias, with six of them doubles, including a two-run, two-base hit by Guiseppe Chiaramonte in the first inning that put Fresno in front to stay. Brian Buchanan had given the Buzz a 2-0 lead in the top ofthe first with his 20th home run of the season.
Eric Gunderson (1-0) pitched three scoreless innings of relief to get the win after replacing the injured starter Ryan Jensen. The ex-Cottonwood star had to leave after three innings due to tendinitis in his right knee.
The Buzz still lead the North division by 11 1/2 games as Tacoma lost at Calgary 9-3, which reduced the magic number to 20.
