LOS ANGELES (AP) — A man found in the wheel well of an Air France jet at Los Angeles International Airport late Thursday may have been a stowaway who survived an overseas flight, authorities said.
"We could see him secreted in the (main wheel) well," Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells said. "He was extricated from an area that's not big enough to get comfortable in."
Wells said the man thrashed about as firefighters pulled him out. He was taken to UCLA Medical Center with severe hypothermia and was in serious condition.
It wasn't clear how he could have survived a high-altitude flight in the wheel well or if he might have been secreted in a safer part of the plane during flight before climbing down after landing.
