In discussing the Alpine fire, your reporter quotes Loyal Clark of the Forest Service saying, "It's inaccessible by engine because it's up in the wilderness area, and we don't have any roads up there." So much for wilderness as protecting these areas for future generations.

This incident illustrates the folly of the anti-road approach to land management. How much more do helicopters cost than firetrucks?
