One person is in critical condition and two others in fair condition following a traffic accident involving an ambulance Sunday night.

Salt Lake County Sheriff's deputy Peggy Faulkner said the ambulance was transporting a patient from Copperton to LDS Hospital when it collided with a pickup truck that ran a stop sign at the intersection of 5400 South and U-111 around 9:30 p.m.

South Jordan Fire Chief Gary Whatcott said the patient being transported did not suffer any additional injuries. The ambulance driver and two paramedics suffered only cuts and bruises. He said the ambulance was "pretty hammered."

As of press time, fire officials did not know the condition of the driver in the pickup truck. There were no other passengers in the pickup.

Faulkner did not know if the lights and sirens on the ambulance were on when the accident occurred.
