Arthritis doesn't have to rule your life or even slow you down. To learn modern ways to defy the disease, you can take a self-help course that starts next week in Sandy.
The class will meet every Tuesday from Aug. 15 through Sept. 19 and cover a variety of easy activities. Participants will learn about eating habits that promote good health, some nontraditional treatments for arthritis and relaxation techniques that work well, said Allyson Davis, the Arthritis Foundation's class coordinator.
"People will learn how to do different stretches and exercises to keep their energy up throughout the day," Davis said. By taking an active part in your own health care, you can learn to "live well with arthritis," she said.
Trained self-help course leaders will teach the class from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays at the Health South Rehabilitation Hospital, 8074 S. 1300 East, Sandy. The $30 fee includes the "Arthritis Help Book" and other materials.
Participants must sign up in advance by calling the Arthritis Foundation at 1-800-444-4993.
