MARINO HONORED: The Miami Dolphins retired the No. 13 of former quarterback Dan Marino during a ceremony at halftime of their game against the Baltimore Ravens.
A life-size bronze statue of Marino that will stand in front of Pro Player Stadium was dedicated, and the league's career leader in passing yards and touchdowns was inducted into the team's Honor Roll. Bob Griese's No. 12 is the only other number the Dolphins have retired.
Auto racing
DURA LUBE 300: Jeff Burton led every lap and won the Dura Lube 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway.
Burton became the first driver to lead all the way in 22 years. The race was the first at New Hampshire to feature the speed-robbing carburetor restrictor plates. The plates were ordered by NASCAR in response to the deaths of Kenny Irwin and Adam Petty at New Hampshire International Speedway earlier this year.
Bobby Labonte, the pole sitter and series leader, nearly led three times, but declined a chance to make final bid for a risky pass and settled for second.
Ricky Rudd drove his Ford to a third-place finish and was followed across the finish line by Dale Jarrett, Rusty Wallace and Jeff Gordon.
MOTOROLA 300: The closest championship chase in CART's 22-year history got tighter as Juan Montoya elbowed his way into the title picture by winning the Motorola 300.
Montoya, the defending series champion, jumped from 11th to eighth in the standings.
Montoya, who picked up his third CART victory of the season and the 10th of his career, broke the race record of 125.725 set by Alex Zanardi in 1998, finishing with a speed of 155.519 mph.
Golf
PENNSYLVANIA CLASSIC: Chris DiMarco shot a 2-under 69 to win the inaugural Pennsylvania Classic by six strokes and earn his first victory on the tour in 159 career starts.
DiMarco finished at 14-under-par 270.
Scott Hoch (65) was in a five-way tie for second at 8-under 276 with Chris Perry (70), Brad Elder (70), Jonathan Kaye (71) and Mark Calcavecchia (72).
KROGER SENIOR CLASSIC: Hubert Green shot a 6-under 64, holding off Larry Nelson by one stroke to win the Kroger Senior Classic.
Green birdied five holes on the front nine and eight during the round, en route to his second Senior PGA Tour win of the season. He finished at 10-under 200 on the Grizzly Course at the King's Island Golf Center.
Green earned $210,000 in his first win since the Audi Senior Classic in March.
John Mahaffey (65) finished third. Bruce Fleisher, ranked No. 1 on the tour's earnings list, finished in a tie for sixth place at 5-under 205.

AVS RE-SIGN DRURY: The Colorado Avalanche re-signed forward Chris Drury to a multiyear contract. Terms were not disclosed.
SHANNON BECOMES CANADIEN: Defenseman Darryl Shannon signed a one-year, $700,000 deal with the Montreal Canadiens. Shannon had six goals and 21 assists in 76 games last season with Atlanta and Calgary, where he earned $1 million.
Cycling
CHAMPION KILLED: Nicole Reinhart, a two-time U.S. National track cycling champion, was killed when she was thrown from her bicycle and struck a tree during a race.
Reinhart, 24, of Mertztown, Pa., was in the final 3 1/2-mile lap of the BMC Tour of Arlington when the accident occurred just before 1 p.m. EDT.
Race organizer Shawn McBride said a videotape showed that Reinhart, racing in the lead pack, was squeezed by other riders just before a turn.
Tennis
PRESIDENT'S CUP: U.S. Open champion Marat Safin won another title before heading to the Olympics, beating Italy's Davide Sanguinetti 6-3, 6-4 to capture the President's Cup.
Safin, seeded second in the $500,000 tournament, will be the No. 1 player for Russia at the Sydney Games. This was the sixth career title, and fifth this year, for the 20-year-old Russian.
Justin Gimelstob and Scott Humphries of the United States won the doubles title, beating South Africans Marius Barnard and Robbie Koenig 6-3, 6-2.
GELSOR OPEN:Juan Balcells of Spain won his first ATP Tour title, beating Markus Hantschk of Germany 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (1) to win the $375,000 Gelsor Open. It was the unseeded Balcells' first career ATP Tour victory.
COMPAQ SENIORS: Guy Forget defeated Pat Cash 7-6 (5), 6-2 in the title match of the Compaq Seniors tournament.
