KNICKS GET HARRINGTON: In a trade that adds size and depth to their frontcourt, the New York Knicks acquired power forward Othella Harrington from the Vancouver Grizzlies for guard Erick Strickland and two draft picks — the Lakers' first round pick in 2001 and a second-round pick.
Harrington, the starting power forward for the Grizzlies for the past 1 1/2 seasons, averages 10.9 points and 6.6 rebounds. He will give the Knicks another big body to back up starters Larry Johnson and Marcus Camby.
OSU PRACTICES: The Oklahoma State men's basketball team practiced for the first time since two players and eight others from the team's traveling party were killed in a plane crash.
The Cowboys' game against Texas Tech has been postponed indefinitely. OSU will return to the court Saturday in a home game against Missouri.

SIMS GOES TO COURT: Billy Sims, the 1978 Heisman Trophy winner from Oklahoma, was ordered to appear in court March 21 concerning accusations he owes more than $14,000 from a 1997 child-support conviction.
Sims pleaded guilty Oct. 10, 1997, to failing to pay $32,900 in child support he owed for the support of Shawnte Renee Sims.
In January 1998, he was sentenced to a month in jail for breaking a child-support law and was ordered to make installment payments.

BREWERS KEEP BLANCO: Catcher Henry Blanco and the Milwaukee Brewers agreed to a two-year contract worth $2,225,000.
He had the highest caught stealing percentage for a catcher since 1982, when California's Bob Boone posted a 56.4 percent success rate.
Sports business
JERSEY DEAL: Gov. Christie Whitman reached a deal with the owners of the New Jersey Devils and New Jersey Nets to help pay for a $325 million sports arena in Newark, but her successor isn't supporting the plan.
Senate President Donald DiFrancesco, who will become acting governor on Wednesday, said he had not been involved in the arena discussions and would not get behind Whitman's proposal.

ALL-STAR CAPTAINS NAMED: Mario Lemieux of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Peter Forsberg of the Colorado Avalanche will be the captains in the NHL All-Star game on Feb. 4 in Denver.

DAVIS CUP TEAM PICKED: Patrick McEnroe took a look at the future when he selected the team to face Switzerland in a Davis Cup match next week.
That was one of the reasons he passed up his 41-year-old brother, John, for 18-year-old juniors champion Andy Roddick for the five-match competition that will be held Feb. 9-11 in Basel, Switzerland.
Besides Roddick, McEnroe selected veterans Todd Martin, Jan-Michael Gambill and Justin Gimelstob.
AMERICAN FALLS: Second-seeded Yevgeny Kafelnikov needed three sets and two hours to defeat American qualifier Jeff Tarango 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the first round of the $400,000 Milan Indoors tournament.
In other first-round play, former French Open champion Sergi Bruguera survived a second-set scare on his way to a 3-6, 7-6 (3), 6-3 victory over Harel Levy.
