The Salt Lake Organizing Committee holds an interfaith roundtable, and Thursday the members of that group presented a book on the world?s religions that will be available during the Games.

KSL TV Religion Specialist Carole Mikita has details.

The book is titled ?A World of Faith,? and it was first published in 1997.

This second printing is a special edition for the Olympics from the Interfaith Roundtable, a group of 65 people representing the different faiths in our state.

A couple of them gathered with the author and illustrator Thursday afternoon at a Barnes and Noble for a book signing.

They say the original idea was to help children understand the basic beliefs of a number of the world?s religions. There are 28 represented here.

Now with this second printing, they hope to link the Olympic motto ?Light the fire within?, with the belief that many have that a divine light radiates within every human being.

Jan Saeed, SLOC Interfaith Roundtable: ?WITH 50% OF THE POPULATION OF SALT LAKE CITY NOT BEING LDS, ?THE MORMON OLYMPICS? IS JUST NOT A CORRECT STATEMENT. AND WE ALL HAVE BEEN WORKING TOGETHER SO WELL TO BRING THE WORLD TO UTAH AND TRYING TO WELCOME THEM AS BEST WE CAN. WE THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE A GOOD WAY TO PROMOTE UNITY AND HARMONY IN OUR COMMUNITY.?

Peggy Fletcher Stack, ?A World of Faith? author: ?ALMOST ALL OF THESE 28 RELIGIONS THAT WE PROFILED ARE HERE, IN UTAH, AND THEY ARE PARTICIPATING IN THAT INTERFAITH ROUNDTABLE AND THEY WANTED TO SEND THAT MESSAGE OF DIVERSITY TO THE WORLD.?

In an unusual move, SLOC is not taking it?s 15% with this book, which is what happens to a product when the Olympic rings are added to it. Instead, the committee members asked for copies to give to dignitaries, athletes and visitors.

The book is available at all bookstores and online with Signature Books or Amazon.com.
