I am an avid fan of the Utah Jazz but have to say Karl Malone has taken a big dip in my personal estimation of him as a role model in our community. Given perhaps the opportunity to be part of the 2002 Winter Games torch relay, his comment that "I don't really have the desire of running it across the desert somewhere for a tenth of a mile" is an affront to all those folks who view it as a once-in-a-lifetime gift no matter how long they hold the torch.

Shame on Karl Malone. Someone needs to remind Malone of the virtue of humility and the true spirit of the Olympic Games.
