A look at 12 failed malls that have been redeveloped for new uses:
Lakewood, Colo. — 106-acre Villa Italia Mall, becoming BelMar with stores, offices and 1,500 dwellings.
Englewood, Colo. — 55-acre Cinderella City Mall, reborn as City Center with stores, offices, a city hall and 438 apartments.
Long Beach, Calif. — 12-acre Long Beach Plaza, becoming CityPlace with hotel, stores and 429 places to live.
Mountain View, Calif. — 18-acre Old Mill Mall, converted to The Crossings with 397 houses, apartments and townhouses.
Park Forest, Ill. — 48-acre Park Forest Plaza, rebuilding as DownTown Park Forest with stores, park and 400 places to live.
Brainerd, Tenn. — 40-acre Eastgate Mall, being renovated as Eastgate Town Center with offices, stores and housing.
Boca Raton, Fla. — 28-acre Boca Raton Mall, rebuilt as Mizner Park with stores, offices, museum and 272 apartments.
New Rochelle, N.Y. — 16-acre New Rochelle Mall, converted to New Roc City, with stores, offices, hotel and hockey arena.
Pasadena, Calif. — 11-acre Pasadena Plaza, rebuilt as Paseo Colorado with stores, offices and 387 apartments.
Bountiful, Utah — 20-acre Five Points Mall, becoming Renaissance Town Centre with offices, stores and sports complex.
Winter Park, Fla. — 32-acre Winter Park Mall, rebuilding as Winter Park Village with offices, stores and 58 apartments.
