A series of area conferences in the South Pacific, presided over by President Spencer W. Kimball, began in Pago Pago, American Samoa, on Feb. 15, 1976. President N. Eldon Tanner, first counselor in the First Presidency, and other General Authorities accompanied President Kimball, according to the Feb. 21, 1976, Church News.

Conferences were also held in Western Samoa, New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga, and in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, Australia. The sessions concluded March 1-2 in Tahiti.

At the beginning of the journey, President Kimball said, according to the Church News report: "We have thousands of wonderful members in the islands. We love and praise them. We are extremely proud of them and the good work they are accomplishing."
