CARSON, Calif. (AP) — The mayor of a Los Angeles suburb has been arrested for violating his parole by allegedly traveling to the Philippines without permission.

Police arrested Peter D. Fajardo, 58, on Thursday as he tried to escape out the back door of his home in Carson, about 25 miles south of Los Angeles, authorities said.

Fajardo, a paralegal, pleaded guilty in July to collecting fees as an attorney. He was sentenced to one year probation and ordered to pay back $4,600 in fees.
