Hunter Jackson, chairman, president and CEO of NPS Pharmaceuticals, has been named "Entrepreneur of the Year" for 2001 by the MountainWest Venture Group.
NPS develops small molecules and recombinant proteins for drugs used primarily for treating central nervous system disorders.
Jackson was honored Thursday at Little America at the group's annual awards luncheon.
MountainWest is an 18-year-old nonprofit organization of Utah businesses that works to develop new capital and foster overall growth of local companies. Its annual awards luncheon is held in conjunction with the Wayne Brown Institute's venture capital conference held Wednesday.
NPS was founded in 1986 and went public in 1994. Last year, the company completed a $193 million secondary stock offering led by CIBC World Markets Corp., Prudential Vector Healthcare Group and Robertson Stephens Inc.
