LaVern Otto Heiden, 79, died Feb. 4, 2001, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born Nov. 9, 1921 in Deshler, Neb., to Christian Johann Wilhelm Heiden and Klara Lydia Marie Offer.

He was the owner and operator of Vern's American /Husky service sta-tions. Avid sports-man, golfer, bowler, fisherman, hunter, and total overall outdoorsman. He was in Patton's 3rd Armored Division as a tank commander in World War II.

Survived by companion, Helen Carr; daughter, Elaine (Larry) Arritola; sons, Marvin LaVern (Ann), Kenneth (Sandy), Reed (Julie), Ron (Sharon); numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Walter (Velma), Melvin, Arnold (Colleen); sisters, Edna Ahrens, Alice Burk, and Evelyn (Marion) Grudzinski. Preceded in death by brother, Ervin.

Funeral services Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, where friends may call Wednesday 7-9 p.m. and Thursday one hour prior to services. Interment, Murray City Cemetery.
