I didn't realized until I began hunting down financial aid for graduate school that it was so hard. Though this is a very late, long-overdue expression of gratitude, I must thank the Deseret News and KSL for the Sterling Scholar program. Because of it, I could focus on my education without worrying about how I was going to pay for it.
If I had not received this award, I probably would not have been able to complete college because I only had enough to get through a year or two of schooling. And I know I would not have been so fortunate to attend Westminster College at all without the scholarship.
I am so grateful for the opportunity to attend college that a mere letter to the editor cannot do justice to my appreciation. Yet I would like to add that the experience behind the Sterling Scholar competition is one of the best ways to strengthen character and creativity. I benefited from the competition in more ways than one.
Thank you for the Sterling Scholar program. I know that it will help many others with outstanding academic achievements attend college as they deserve. In fact, when I am able, I will donate to college scholarship funds; it is the best way I can give back what I have received.
