5A boys basketball — Thursday scores

Quarterfinal games in the 5A high school boys state basketball tournament being played Thursday at Weber State University:

Taylorsville 54, Copper Hills 39

OGDEN — Taylorsville's Adam Tripp scored a game-high 20 points on 4-of-4 shooting from 3-point land as the Warriors ousted the defending-champion Grizzlies.

The Warriors (10-12)led by 12 at the half and held on to it through the

remainder of the contest. Gerry Swanson had nine points for the Warriors

and Jared Hamilton had eight.

Jared Dearden led the Grizzlies (10-13) with 13 points in the losing effort.

The Warriors play the winner of Orem and Layton at 8:10 p.m. Friday night.

Orem 64, Layton 62

OGDEN — The Orem Tigers had only four players score and all them hit for double-figures led by Jonny Harline's 28 points as the No. 1 Tigers held off the Lancers.

Steve Stuart, who had six straight points in the fourth, had 14 points,

and Pat Thomas and Chet Cusick had 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The Tigers had a two-point lead with 10 seconds left and Layton couldn't

convert its 3-point shot a the buzzer.

Brent Egan led the Lancers with 16 points and Brandon Viator had 10.

The Tigers play Taylorsville at 8:10 p.m. Friday in the semifinals.

West Jordan 54, Timpanogos 47

West Jordan got balanced scoring from Scott Horspool and Stehpon Mills, who had 14 and 13 points each in the victory over Timpanogos.

Horspool also had 10 rebounds as the Jaguars (17-6) advanced to the semifinals. They will meet the winner of Mountain View and Riverton Friday at 6:30 p.m.

The two teams were tied at 37-37 going into the fourth quarter and it remanied tied, this time at 42-42, at the 3:40 mark when West Jordan's Casey Springer had two of his seven points to give the Jags the lead for good.

Alan Bartholomew led all scorers with 19 points for Timpanogos (12-11).

Mountain View 57, Riverton 45

The Mountain View Bruins moved into the 5A semifinals for the straight year and fifth in seven years with the 12-point win over the Silverwolves.

Dan Henry, who slightly turned his ankle in the third quarter, led the Bruins with 14 points and Karl Riding added 14 more.

The Bruins hit three straight 3-pointers to start the game and never looked back.

Mike Farnsworth, Tye Stauffer and Mitch Young all had eight points for Riverton.
