Obituary: Max Arnold Finlayson

Max Arnold Finlayson passed away March 13, 2001 at the Veteran's Hospital in Salt Lake City.

He was born January 2, 1928, in West Jordan, Utah to Hugh Stanley and Jane Elizabeth Gard-ner Finlayson. He felt a pride as a descendant of early West Jordan settlers.

He married Phyllis Carson on February 1, 1951, in West Jordan, Utah. This marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on May 12, 1964.

Max had many interests during his life; he was a farmer, operated service stations, and built businesses as a general contractor. He loved to travel, having the opportunity to see many parts of the world. Also served on the West Jordan City Council.

He loved the Lord and was pleased to be able to serve him in many capacities a scoutmaster, bishop's councilor, high councilor, High Priest Group leader, missionary for Substance Abuse through Social Services, home teacher, and currently as a stake missionary. He was a gentle man and truly cared about others.

Survived by his loving wife; three children, Lairn (Jaylene), Neal, and Thomas (Nita); ten grandchildren, Katie (Mike) Jones, Nicholas, Kimberly, Matthew, Nathan, Tami, and Skyler Finlayson, and Jason (Jennifer) Deittman, Shanna (Justin) Bolton and Dustin Deittman; six and one-half great-grandchildren; two nephews; and one niece. His family meant everything to him and he loved being a part of their lives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ronald; two sisters, June and Glenda; and a nephew, Ricky Maynard.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, March 17, 2001 at 1 p.m. at Heritage Stake LDS Chapel, 7645 South 3200 West, West Jordan, UT. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services and on Friday, March 16, 2001 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan.
