Musician and TV star push arts education

Jazz saxophonist Branford Marsalis joined Bob McGrath, a longtime star of "Sesame Street," on Capitol Hill to talk up support for arts education programs.

Marsalis and McGrath, joined by VH1 President John Sykes and Brown University researcher Martin Gardiner, stalked the halls of Congress on Thursday, meeting with Education Secretary Rod Paige and lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.

Marsalis said lawmakers were supportive of their pitch for more music in schools and hopes President Bush makes a point of speaking out about the importance of the arts. "Learning music makes you smarter," he said.
