WASHINGTON (AP) — Jeffrey Higginbotham, an FBI assistant director who headed the agency's training division for the past two years, was demoted and transferred Friday after an internal review of the division, the agency said.
The FBI said the internal investigation did not involve financial irregularities, but a bureau spokesman refused to identify the nature of the findings.
Higginbotham is being reassigned to the FBI's Office of General Counsel, the agency said. His successor as head of the FBI Academy has not been named.
Higginbotham has been with the FBI since 1977 and has spent most of his career at FBI headquarters in Washington and at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Va. He was deputy assistant director of the training division before being named assistant director in 1999.
