Producer says Eminem to star in flick

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Eminem, a movie star?

It just might happen. Film producer Brian Grazer told "Access Hollywood" he has cast the rapper, whose real name is Marshall Mathers III, in his film debut.

"It's a 'Purple Rain' kind of movie," he told the syndicated show on Monday, referring to Prince's semiautobiographical movie debut in 1984. "It's a hip movie, loosely based on Eminem's life, growing up in Detroit, an edgy story of his life."

Eminem's publicist, Dennis Dennehy, told The Associated Press on Monday he could not confirm that the rapper had agreed to the project but said Eminem has been talking with Grazer about starring in such a film.

Grazer's credits include "The Nutty Professor" and "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas."

As for Eminem's screen skills, Grazer said: "I think he'll be a really good actor."
