Fugitive faces charges in death of South S.L. man

Prosecutors have filed charges against a fugitive they believe shot and killed a South Salt Lake man last week.

South Salt Lake officer Darin Sweeten said investigators received information from an eyewitness that Cruz Soria Patino, 22, shot Evaristo Cardenas with a .22 caliber rifle at 1:45 a.m. on March 11.

As of Thursday morning investigators were looking for Patino.

Cardenas had physically beaten Patino a week earlier after Patino hit on Cardenas' girlfriend at a bar, Sweeten said.

Sweeten said Patino is an illegal alien who may be headed to Grand Junction, Colo., en route to Mexico.
