Obituary: Maureen Lund Umbreit

SALT LAKE CITY<! > -- Beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and daughter of our Father in Heaven, passed away on March 16, 2001 after a brief illness.

She was born on May 10, 1926 in Brigham City, Utah, a daughter of Orville D. and Mildred Boden Lund. Shortly after graduation from high school, she married the love of her life, Ralph Eric Umbreit on Valentine's Day in 1946. Through her patience, love and kindly determination, Ralph joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1962 and they were later sealed in the Logan Temple on August 21, 1963. She and her husband owned and operated Umbreit's Jewelry Store in Spokane, Washington for 37 years. They were a great team. He was the salesman and she did everything else from bookkeeping and inventory management to showcase displays and advertising. She even became accomplished at sales herself, which of course allowed her husband time for his hunting and fishing. Maureen loved gardening at her home in Spokane. She was also an accomplished seamstress, meticulous homemaker, and great cook. Her grandchildren loved her homemade chocolate silk pie, fudge, and Danish beverage. Maureen was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her entire life and served faithfully in numerous callings including Relief Society President and Young Women's President. However, as the years rolled by her favorite calling in the church was anything that involved Genealogy and she helped train many members of the Church to do their own research.

Maureen is survived by her son, Douglas R. (Kathryn) Umbreit; two grandchildren, Matt and Melissa, all of Sandy; brother, O. Dee (Relda-deceased) Lund, Brigham City; sisters Mildred (Jack) Shumway, Tremonton, and Dorothy (Phil) Rowe, St. George; and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Ralph, and sister, Vera (Kenneth-also deceased) Larson.

The family would like to thank Drs. Barclay Bigelow, Mark Zenger, John B. Krueger; Care Manager, Suzette Welch, RN; as well as the dedicated and caring staff of Cottonwood Hospital's 5th floor.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 20, 2001 at 11 a.m. at the Little Cottonwood 1st Ward, 6350 South Rodeo Lane (1525 East), Holladay, Utah. Friends may call on Monday, March 19, 2000 from 6-8 p.m. at Meyers Mortuary, 205 South 1st East, Brigham City, Utah and on Tuesday, at the Church, from 9:45 a.m.-10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
