GRENOBLE, France — At least two people were killed and another was missing after an avalanche in the French Alps, police said Tuesday.
The avalanche struck above the village of Thones, in the southeastern Haute-Savoie region on Monday afternoon. Rescuers have pulled two bodies from the snow, which is 10 yards deep in some areas.
The dead are two hikers from the nearby Annecy region and Villeurbanne, in the Rhone region. Police believe at least one more person was swept away in the avalanche.
