I was extremely offended to find a derogatory term for illegal aliens published in the second paragraph of a March 8 news story ("Hero back in Salvador is a 'criminal' in Utah").
Though the story tried to paint a sympathetic portrait of an illegal alien living in Utah, the offensive term was not appropriate, nor does it represent the language used by the vast majority of Utahns.
I would imagine that the Deseret News would refuse to publish other offensive racial epithets. Why did the paper decide to make an exception in this case? I believe an apology is in order.
