Provo leaders plan to fly foreign flags in welcome

PROVO — In front of his home, Mayor Lewis Billings plans to fly the Japanese flag along with the American flag.

Councilman Stan Lockhart will proudly fly the Mexican flag.

It's part of an effort by city officials to encourage residents to get into the Olympic spirit by flying a foreign flag.

"We want the world to come and feel welcome here," Billings said.

Provo will host women's hockey events at the Peaks Ice Arena during the 2002 Winter Olympic Games.

Flags can be purchased for $11 at the Provo Towne Centre mall.
