Cornelia Peterson Saxton returned to the embracing arms of her celestial mate, Vern Saxton, Wednesday afternoon, March 21, 2001, after a long illness. She quietly passed away in the loving home of her daughter, Sally Price, who had tenderly cared for her for the past seven yeas.
On July 12, 1913 in Manti, Utah, Cornelia Peterson was born, the oldest of five children, to Erastus Peterson and Cornelia Staker Peterson. In 1934-35, she served in the Eastern United States Mission and assisted in the dedication of the Hill Cumorah Monument of President Heber J. Grant. After graduating from the David O. McKay School of Nursing in 1940, she became an accomplished nurse and received many positions of authority at the LDS Hospital in Idaho Falls, Idaho before retiring. She met her eternal mate in Alaska and married him on February 9, 1942, in Juneau, Alaska. She was later sealed to him in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
She is survived by her sister, Sytha Nielsen; all three of her children, Sarah Nell (Sally) Price of Iona, ID; Vern Steven Saxton of
Sumner, WA; and Paul Wlson Saxton of Sandy, UT. 17 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, March 24, 2001 at the Salt Lake City
Cemetery at 2 p.m.
