MIDVALE — Some 36 percent of the 6- to 8-year-old children in Salt Lake County area are believed to have untreated tooth decay. To combat this problem, the Oral Health Task force of the Salt Lake Valley Health Department has planned a "Sealant Saturday" project to help meet the oral health needs of many high-risk children in the valley.

The first "Sealant Saturday" will be held today from 9 a.m. to noon at the Midvale Dental Care Clinic, 7304 S. 300 West.

A dental sealant is a resin material usually applied to the pits and fissures of the back teeth to protect teeth from bacterial plaque in cavity-prone areas.
