Devils 4, Canucks 0

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Patrik Elias scored two goals and the New Jersey Devils tied the NHL's fourth-longest winning streak by beating the Vancouver Canucks 4-0 on Friday night for their 13th straight win.

The streak matches runs by the Boston Bruins in 1971 and Philadelphia Flyers in 1985, and moved the Devils within four of tying the league record, set by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1993.

John Vanbiesbrouck had 23 saves as the Devils posted their second straight shutout. The shutout was also the second of season and 40th of his career for Vanbiesbrouck, who was acquired earlier this month from the Islanders.

Petr Sykora, and Jim McKenzie also scored, and Jason Arnott added two assists.

Pittsburgh will get a chance to end the run in New Jersey on Sunday, when the Devils have a shot at tying the NHL's third-longest streak, a 14-game run by the Bruins in the 1929-30 season. The New York Islanders' 15-game run in 1982 is the NHL's second-longest winning streak.

HURRICANES 5, PENGUINS 3: Sami Kapanen scored two goals and Ron Francis had three assists to lead Carolina to its season-high fourth straight win.

Alexei Kovalev scored his 42nd of the season on the power play with 12:41 left as Pittsburgh rallied from a three-goal deficit to tie it 3-3.
