A Salt Lake County Sheriff's deputy was in fair condition Friday night following a collision with a truck.
Deputy Thad Phillips was taken to LDS Hospital in critical condition late Thursday evening. He underwent surgery Friday after suffering multiple traumas, including injuries to his head.
Phillips was in his patrol car on the way to the scene of a pursuit in the Midvale area at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday when the collision occurred. It took rescuers about 30 minutes to extricate Phillips from his vehicle. The driver of the truck was treated at Cottonwood Hospital and released.
