Centenarians
May W. Hirschi of the Bountiful 41st Ward, Bountiful Utah Heights Stake, celebrated her 100th birthday on March 4. She was born in Geneva, Idaho, to Samuel and Martha Beck Widmer. She married Christian Hirschi Jr. in 1919 in the Salt Lake Temple. Sister Hirschi has five children, 13 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grand- children.
James T. Schoenfeld of the Monument Park 4th Ward, Salt Lake Foothill Stake, celebrated his 100th birthday on March 17. He was born in Salt Lake City to Albert and Florence Schoenfeld and married Winnie Williams in 1925. He has two children, six grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren.
Martha Jenson Brian of the Waterloo Ward, Salt Lake Wells Stake, celebrated her 100th birthday on March 18. She was born in Fremont, Utah, and served a mission in the Northern States Mission. She married W. Rex Brian in 1927. They lived in Wayne County, Utah, for many years. She has served in many Church callings. Sister Brian has seven children with a posterity of 137.
Writing
Lacey Lee Bryant, 13, of the Chewelah Ward, Colville Washington Stake, was the national winner in the General Federation of Women's Clubs short story writing competition. Her story, "Once Upon a Snow," won first place in the state Youth Short Story competition before advancing to nationals.
