ST. GEORGE, UT--<! > Lorna Berneice Gordon Peterson, 86, passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2001 in the St. George Care Center.
She was born on April 7, 1914, in Thatcher, Arizona to Grover C. and Janette Lemmon Hopkins. Berneice was the second of four children born to this union. Janette divorced and later married Martin O. Woolsey and to this union five children were born. She married Charles V. (Buck) Gordon in Cedar City, UT on October 28, 1936. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple. He later died on July 6, 1965. She married Delbert (Dub) Peterson on March 31, 1971 in Caliente, NV. Dub died on April 15, 1982.
Berneice is survived by her six children: Berl (Sharlene) Gordon; Lee (Irene) Gordon; Jackie (Bob) Beatty, Janette (Gordon) Farnsworth; Richard (Cristal) Gordon; Lorna Jean (Steven) Gower. She was preceded in death by her husbands: Charles Gordon and Delbert Peterson, three brothers and one sister. She is survived by her six children, 35 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren; eight great great-grandchildren; two sisters: Sara Smith, Lora Dawn Christensen; and a brother: David L. Woolsey.
Berneice lived in Thatcher, AZ until she was about five or six years old, then moved to Cedar City, UT. Her family then moved to New Harmony for the winters and Woolsey Ranch for the summers. Buck and Berneice raised their family in Cedar City. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many church callings. She worked as a housekeeper and then as a nurses aid at the hospital in Cedar City, UT. Berneice adored her children and grandchildren and loved spending time with them. Her home was always open to her family and she always made sure they had a hot meal and bed to sleep in. We'll miss you, mama!
Funeral services will be Monday, March 26, 2001 at 11 a.m. at the Cedar City (old) North Stake Center, 61 North 900 West. Visitations will be Sunday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd and Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services at the Stake Center. Interment will be in the Cedar City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary, 435-673-4221.
