LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Sci Fi Channel has phoned home to Steven Spielberg for a new miniseries about alien kidnappers.

The director of "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" plans to produce a 20-hour program about three fictional families who experience alien abductions, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Tentatively titled "Taken," the show is scheduled to premiere next year. The network also is planning a four-hour sequel to Stephen King's "Firestarter."

"Firestarter: The Next Chapter" picks up 20 years after the original story, about a young girl who can start blazes with her mind.

Other projects the channel announced include televised movies based on the "Babylon 5" outer-space series and the Clive Barker story "Saint Sinner," about a 19th-century monk who accidentally unleashes two time-traveling demons.
