SANDY — Music to get the patriotic heart thumping will be on tap this evening, when the U.S. Army Field Band and Soldier's Chorus, based in Washington, D.C., performs at Jordan High School.
The free public concert also will feature an outstanding local band, the Utah National Guard's 23rd Army Band, said Lt. Col. Craig V. Morgan, Guard spokesman.
The concert starts at 7 p.m. at the school's auditorium, 95 E. Beetdigger Blvd. (9825 South), Sandy.
The concert is made possible by the Army's support of the National Standards for Arts and Education Program, which promotes arts and music education in schools, Morgan added.
The 23rd Army Band is led by Chief Warrant Officer J. Michael Cottam. It has conducted concerts on two continents and recently performed with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir during Gov. Mike Leavitt's inauguration at the Utah Capitol.
"This is a rare opportunity to see and hear our nation's top military band," Cottam said. "If you love military bands, this is definitely going to be this year's best event."
Seating is limited, and those attending are encouraged to arrive early for the best seat selection, Morgan added.
