SOFTBALL: The University of Utah softball team was outmatched by No. 2 -ranked Arizona Wildcats in two games Friday and Saturday. The two losses drop the Utes to 18-15 on the year, while Arizona improved to 36-2.
The Utes will be in action on Mar. 28 at home against instate rival Utah State. They will open up conference play with a doubleheader at New Mexico on March 30.
MEN'S TENNIS: The 66th-ranked University of Utah men's tennis squad fell to New Mexico, 5-2, on Saturday. The match was held at BYU. The loss drops Utah to 7-7 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
The Utes will take to the road to finish conference play against UNLV and San Diego State Friday and Saturday. Both matches will take place in San Diego. Utah will wrap up their season at home against Denver and Montana April 10-12.
WOMEN'S TENNIS: The University of Utah women's tennis team (4-8, 2-1 MWC) lost its first Mountain West Conference match in a 7-0 shutout by No. 38 New Mexico (8-6, 1-1 MWC).
Utah plays UNLV and San Diego State next weekend in Las Vegas. The Utes take on the Rebels Friday at 2 p.m. and the Aztecs Saturday at 10 a.m.
BASEBALL: The University of Utah baseball team (16-12, 6-3 MWC) used a seven-run fifth inning and five long balls to take the three-game series, 2-1, in a 12-11 win against Nevada-Las Vegas (12-17, 4-5 MWC) at Franklin-Covey Field.
Brit Pannier started the home-run fest with a solo shot in the second inning to put Utah up 1-0. In the top of the third, UNLV went ahead 2-1 after taking advantage of two doubles and a Ute error. The Utes answered back with three runs in their half inning.
Donald Hawes led off with a solo blast to left field.
Donnie Saba singled and came home when Chris Shelton hit a two-run bomb to the 420-foot mark in center field. UNLV scored one in the fourth and four in the fifth for a 7-4 advantage.
Utah plays a doubleheader Tuesday against Mesa State starting at noon at Franklin-Covey Field.

SOFTBALL: Utah State's softball team stopped a four-game losing streak by posting a come-from-behind 3-2 victory at Cal-State Northridge Sunday. With the win the Aggies improved to 5-20 overall and 1-2 in Big West Conference play, while Northridge fell to 17-14, 2-1
Utah State will open its home season on Saturday with a double-header against Long Beach State at 1 p.m. The same two teams will return to Aggie field Sunday for a single game at 1 p.m.
